W H Collier is a small indepentant works producing handmade bricks, a tradition first introduced by the romans when Colchester, our nearest town, was their capital Camulodunum.
We have been using our own clay, dug on site, from a seam laid down in the inter glacial period over 10,000 years ago.
W H Collier has been making bricks at Marks Tey since 1863. During that time at least 6 different clamps and kilns have been used to fire the bricks. The latest a moving hood kiln was installed in 2006. One of the reasons for this was to enable us to reintroduce the Essex Primrose range.
The W H Collier handmade facing brick is known for its fine handmade features. The stock conforms to BSEN 771-1 2003 65mm facing and is made in a variety of colours.
We can make to your requirements Imperial sized bricks, special shapes and can personalise with dates and messages.
Our range also includes fireplace briquettes where we have a tradition for being the leading national manufacturer.
